Failing to Say It

For once, I don’t have to say it (but I’m going to comment on it anyway).

One of our local TV stations posted an online story about an arson fire containing this line:

“Officers say they have identified a possible suspect, but that person will not be identified pending further investigation.”

Here’s the reader comment (and no, it wasn’t me!):

"... have identified a possible suspect, but that person will not be identified... "
We know what you're trying to say, but you failed to say it.
As time goes on, the problem seems to get worse, not better.
Doesn't anyone have any pride, anymore?

Oh, yes, we have pride – in our fashion-conscious appearances, our material possessions, and our sports teams. Pride in the English language? Not so much.

How NOT to Land an Agent

Step 1.  Open your query letter with this salutation:
Deer Agent, ...
Step 2. Oh - wait. No need for a Step 2. Mission accomplished!

Thanks to the anonymous agent behind the Slushpile Hell blog for posting this query fail last week.
